Santa Fe's Annual
Burning of old man gloom
"ZOZOBRA"
Zozobra was conceived and created in 1924, by
local artist William Howard Shuster, Jr. - "Will" (1893-1969).
Annually Santa Fe
gets together to burn away their gloom's, of the prior year, and to
begin the annual Fiestas de Santa Fe during the weekend following Labor
Day.
He is a fifty foot
bogeyman marionette, and as the fire works commence, and his fate
becomes apparent, he moans and groans and wails in fear and anger, as
the fire gets closer!
He
is strung up, and burnt down in an amazing display of fire works,
taking with him all our troubles and gloom's for another year !
