Every August, in Santa Fe, the Native
Americans
of the region come together to share their rich history of drawings,
weaving, jewelry, painting, sculpture, and more.
This event is commonly
referred to as the Santa Fe Indian Market. It is such a
significant display of Native American artistry that many
art-enthusiasts come annually to Santa Fe just for this event.
It provides the
opportunity to purchase original works of
art directly from 1,200 American Indian artists who participate from
across the country.
In addition,
hundreds of gallery openings, art shows and related events
take place during the weekend of Indian Market and during the two weeks
immediately preceding it.
